Please plan to attend the meeting indicated on the email. If you are a classroom teacher in any capacity, specialist, EC teacher and did not receive the email, let me know.
Several technology workshops have been scheduled and should be on-line by next week. You will receive an electronic copy of a staff development calendar indicating dates and times. You will be notified when you can sign up on line.
Staff meeting on Tuesday, September 1 at 3:15
PBS question of the day-What level behavior would this be?-When a child locks bathroom stall door and climbs underneath door as a joke. This happened several times the last few years (at least 4-5 times each year) this delayed bathroom times for the class. This behavior could be classified as rude and disrespectful actions level 2. Consequences can include time out, silent lunch, loss of privilege, walking at recess.
Have a great weekend. Our first week has been fantastic-Everyone has done such a great job.

Today is Day 2 on the Specials calendar
PBS student Kickoff tomorrow-see yesterday's post for times
Temperature is predicted to reach 90 degrees or higher-no outside activities after 12 noon.
Several technology workshops have been planned for the next few months. Some of the sessions will be mandatory and some will be optional. As much as possible sessions have been schedules on dates for staff meetings or RC days. All sessions are one hour only. The sessions will be described tomorrow along with when you can sign up on line. Remember, not only will you gain great skills, but these sessions will help you meet license requirements for tech credits.
Committee assignments were sent out on email yesterday. A corrected copy with very minor changes will be sent today. Please check your email.
PBS questions of the day-How do Specialists use the classroom discipline forms?
Specialists will use a three pages classroom discipline form for level 1 and level 2 behavior. If a student receives a classroom discipline form, two copies will go to the homeroom teacher and one copy will stay with the specialist. One of the copies should go home and another should stay with the classroom teacher for your records. Behaviors that take place in specials may not necessarily constitute moving from a level 1 to level 2 unless a pattern is indicated from special to special. That's why the the teacher gets the form. Just because a child gets a classroom discipline form in specials and then has a behavior in homeroom does not mean there is an automatic move from level 1 to level 2 or level 2 to level 3. Specialists will handle level 3 behavior like everyone else.
Review your flow chart and manual-Remember level 1 and level 2 behaviors are classroom managed. As the year progresses, students will try rules and our response. Stay positive and follow the consequence flowchart. It may take more effort on the front end but it will be worth it.

Off to a great Start
Today is Day 1 on the Specials calendar
Kindergarten classes will start specials on Friday
PBS kickoff assembly on Friday. K-2-9:30, 3-5-10:30
Temperature are predicted to reach 90 degrees. No outside activities after noon.
We had a great start to school yesterday. Mrs. Bigham was impressed with everything.
Everyone focused on teaching P.R.I.D.E to all students. Keep it up-Remember it will take repeated modeling and intentional teaching of these expectations. Use the lesson plans provided in your manual. Continue to use opening activities such as student surveys to develop the atmosphere and expectations for your class. Pass out those Den Dollars. Everyone did a great job of getting them out. Remember we want to give students plenty of Den dollars to reinforce our expectations. Our biggest learning curve will be with our behavior as adults. Please review and know staff expectations for things like voice volume, supervision expectations.
PBS question of the day-
What if you discover someone giving their den dollars away? Den dollars are specific for students. Students names are written on the den dollars, no one should be giving blank den dollars or even having students write their names on them unless it is done in your presence. So a student can't spend den dollars with different names. If that fails, den dollars should be considered like real money-give it away and it's gone. Also The "I" in PRIDE stands for integrity. Let's use that situation as a teaching moment.
Procedures concerning copying and supplies will be shared in the next few days. Any suggestions from past experience would be welcome. The main goal is to get teachers what you want when you want it.
Have another great day.

The big day is here !!
PLEASE REVIEW GIBSON PRIDE ALL WEEK LONG.
Today's Date is August 25, 2009Today is Day O on the specialists calendar
All specials except computer will start tomorrow.
No tardy students recorded today or this week.
Make sure you know about dismissal plans for students. If not call the office by 12:00.
It is certain we shall receive more students this morning. We know many are you are at class sizes that we are unaccustomed to having in recent years. Please be careful not to express a sense of frustration or reluctance to receive students-especially in the presence of the student or parent. We will continually notify administration of our enrollment in order to determine what relief, if any, can be expected.

Please remember to sit with your class during lunch for the first few weeks of school. We are asking specialists( including ESL, AIG, Title 1 teachers and assistants) to eat in the cafeteria and sit with a class as well. As a school, we are using new procedures and everyone's help is needed.
PBS news and Notes-
We received a number of questions from our initial PBS meeting. The PBS team has met and I will provide the response of the team over the next few posts. I will do a question a day and the answer:
Q. Speaking of disrespectful, is it OK to go into the boys' bathroom if you hear lots of noise or if a student does not answer if you call them out, etc. Is that being disrespectful? NO. Teachers are expected to supervise students in every setting. Noise in the bathroom clearly conflicts with bathroom expectations and the staff member can provide the necessary consequence or follow-up.
PBS is a work in progress, we will hit snags but together we can solve any problem we are presented.
Classroom teachers, If you received classroom discipline forms with three pages instead of two return to them to the office and get forms with two pages. The three pages forms will be used by specialists only.
Cafeteria News-Federal law has changed in how we must address meal choices our students make. In the past, many teachers have encouraged or even required students make certain meal choices or restricted choices based on a variety of reasons ( no meat or veggie chosen, no dessert because of behavior, etc). The law states we can no longer make those choices for students even if we disagree with them. The program is called OFFER vs SERVE. I will forward the email from our cafeteria manager. Please read it carefully.
3-5 teachers: in our QRI training, you were told that STAR reading would not be used. I spoke in error. STAR Reading will be used in the computer lab with Mr. Torian and may be used in AR leveling but it will not be used as our reading assessment. QRI will be used and implemented as described earlier.
