The first Skate Night for this year is Monday, September 14. Turnout is always better from students if they know their teacher will be there. Please consider coming out for a few minutes.
Please pay hospitality dues. There is a special drawing for those who pay by September 30.
Certified staff-
Starting Monday afternoon, administrators will begin reviewing lesson plans. Please have lesson plans (or a copy) on your desk, turned to the current week. Our goal is to review them weekly. There are five "big" ideas we shall be looking for to when reviewing lesson plans:
  • lesson objective (phrase, statement or essential question-not just obj. number)
  • If you teach reading, a breakdown of balanced literacy (Teacher directed, small group/guided reading, working with words, self selected) Review handouts in staff handbook
  • How will the objective be taught (more than a page number or name of a worksheet)
  • How will implement high yield strategies (cooperative groups, graphic organizers for example)
  • How will you reach all learners ( indication of extension/remediation activities, if needed)
Please review the staff handbook for handouts and expectations concerning lesson plans.
The administrator assigned to your grade level or the administrator whom will evaluate you will review your lesson plans. David-K and second grade, Cindy-first and fifth and Ron-Third and fourth.
The schedule for PLC meetings will be sent next week. PLC's should begin meeting the week of September 28th.
PBS corner-
The PBS committee is always reviewing and refining processes and routines for ease. If you have a suggestion for a change in a routine or pattern ( ex: traffic flow or movement pattern) please let the PBS team know and we shall discuss it.

Today is day 4 on the Specials calendar.
Third grade assembly sponsored by the Junior League in gym
Fundraiser kickoff assembly tomorrow starting at 9:30
In the case of new students especially,Any bus transportation assignments need to come through the office. Please don't take the parents' word for what they think the bus or stop should be or try to figure it out yourself based on other students with similar addresses in your class. Please inform the assistant prinicpals if you are in any way unsure about a bus or bus stop.
Progress reports go home today. Parents get to keep a copy. Send one copy retain a copy at school. If parents sign and return, you may want to keep the signed copy and send the yellow copy home the following week. Some parents may not return the white copy. You have the carbon for your records.
The PTA board has voted how the proceeds from the fundraiser will be shared with teachers. Thirty percent (30%) of the total profit from the fall fundraiser will be shared with homeroom teachers. This percentage is different than the 50% share from individual class sales. The PTA also voted to create a very substantial teacher resource and support line item in the budget for this year. Teachers (any, not just classroom teachers) will be allowed to request monies from this fund to support many of the supplies and materials we could not get because of changes to the supply list and cuts to the budget. The process will be detailed at a later time. Teachers are encouraged to push the fundraiser because the larger the profit margin, the larger the initial 30% share and the larger the supply budget can be.
PBS-
Today we will show just the cafeteria expectation portion of the PBS video and review cafeteria pride. Students need to be reminded that whenever they are in the cafeteria, the rules apply (breakfast or lunch). Please take a minute to review these rules as well.
The PBS committee is asking teachers to make a conscious effort to model the appropriate voice volumes throughout the building. Students must observe us using voice volume 0, 1 or 2 as well as expectign them to do so as well.
Please keep Charlotte Ledford, one of our cafeteria servers, in your thoughts and prayers. he brother passed away yesterday.
Finally, check out Mrs. Freeman's blog: 4thgradepirates.blogspot.com. It is great. If you start a blog or a wiki, let me know and I will share it with everyone.

Today is Day 3 on the Specials calendar.
Please send notes from any students who will opt out of seeing the address by the President to the office as soon as possible. We will determine where those students will be during the address after the number of students is determined. The channel number will be announced this morning. The time of the address is 12 noon and not one o'clock as previously indicated. Please plan to have students who do not opt to view the address. Please wait to go outside after the address and we will show the broadcast in the cafeteria.
The duty free lunch plan and the duty free budget will be posted on the wiki today. As a grade level, decide what changes if any are to be made and edit accordingly. We shall be hiring a monitor this week. Remember the goal is to have two days of duty free lunch using current staff (assistants) and the lunch monitor is hired to provide more coverage. Classified staff members do not get duty free lunch as required in WSFCS policy. If you did not attend the meeting, please see Ron to get any documents you have not received.
Teachers please begin to review evaluation documents given on Thursday and prepare your self assessment. Your assigned administrator will contact you for your first conference to discuss IGP and or first observation.
SIT minutes will be posted in the mail room and sent via email to all staff members.

The PBS committee will meet today after school.
Fundraiser kickoff assembly tomorrow morning. Please review PBS assembly rules in the morning. Fundraiser packets will be sent home tomorrow as well.
Please consider paying hospitality dues ($20). These funds are needed to express our care and support to our staff members. In cases of life changing events, positive or not so positive, the hospitality fund is first to share congratulations or condolences.
The visitors on Friday were very impressed with not only PBS but our school overall. The pride(I just don't mean the core values either) of Gibson staff and students is evident.
