Today is day 1 on the specials calendar. The last couple of days the blog days and the specials are been mismatched. Sorry. Yesterday was day 6 and today is day 1. Refer to the weekly update for accurate days and dates.
Mrs. Sawyer is expecting to come back on Monday. We have really missed her! We thank Mrs. Wardlaw for her help these last few weeks.
Tornado drill today at 9:30. We will make two announcements:
"A tornado watch is in effect." You should prepare to go to your place. Do not go into the hall at this time.
We will then announce: "A tornado warning is in effect. Please take appropriate action." At that time, take your classes into the hallways. Please take your attendance with you. K teachers need to go to the special where their students are. The specialists will call their attendance.
The 2010 Teacher Working Conditions survey will be on-line starting March 15. This survey is given to educators across the entire state of NC. Teachers and assistants are surveyed on how leadership, climate , professional development, time and other factors are addressed in their workplace. The survey will be on-line for about a month. All staff participation is very important for looking at ways to have a voice in what direction education in our state takes. In light of the financial challenges facing NC, educators voices are more important than ever. Staff will be receive further information as it becomes available.

Today is day 5 on the specials calendar.
There will be a call meeting of all staff on Today Thursday, March 4 immediately after the buses leave. This meeting will cover proposed budget cuts for next school year. Every individual employee of WSFCS will be impacted by this first round of budget cuts. This meeting is very important and you need to make sure you are present. Tutoring has been cancelled for Thursday. The meeting will be in the gym. We will set up like last time we were in the gym.
Please remember Tornado drill is Friday at 9:30. Teachers are expected to have their attendance and call the roll while the drill is taking place. We will remind everyone of the protocol at this afternoon's meeting.
Mrs. Sawyer expects to return to work next week. Let's welcome her back.

Today is day 4 on the specials calendar.
WSFCS will operate on a two hour delay today. Students will enter the building at 9:50 and be sent directly to class. Students who eat breakfast will be given a "grab and go" meal and sent to class. No tardies will be assessed today.
Teachers need to remember that Reading and Math instruction need to take place even if it means a switch in your schedule. Many of you are are working to publish your books and that activity is fine.
We have received markers for publishing-each homeroom teacher will get a four (4) of packs of markers that will be labeled with your name on them. On March 19, after the publishing is finished, the markers will be taken up and stored for next year. Make sure your students return the markers in the right condition and colors because those markers will be the ones you will use next year for publishing. If you finish with the markers before the 19th, feel free to turn them in to be stored for next year. The markers are not to be stored in classrooms.

Please remember Tornado drill is Friday at 9:30. You need to make sure your class practices before the statewide-drill. Students must use the proper position, be in the proper palce, not by windows or doors and taught to be silent. Teachers are expected to have their attendance and call the roll while the drill is taking place. I haven't seen any classes practicing-just be sure you know what to do on Friday.

Today is day 3 on the specials calendar.
This weekend our school grounds was somewhat vandalized. The bank near the K-1 playground was set on fire. No damage to equipment or anything, but when K-1 classes go outside they will see a pretty big black area of scorched ground. Please do not let the children anywhere near the bank. I will contact the grounds department and see what can be done.
Staff meeting-Tuesday March 2 after buses leave. The assistant superintendent for Technology will be presenting a new feature of technology that we all need to be aware of as educators and parents. This meeting is very important.
Principal meeting-Tuesday morning
Statewide Severe weather drill (Tornado drill)-Wednesday at 9:30. Please make sure everyone knows what to do and where your class is supposed to go. All staff are expected to participate.
Congratulations to Mr. Robinson, our PE student teacher. His wife gave birth to a healthy baby girl last Thursday.
Please make sure you securely lock any door leading to the outside if your class has one.
