Great week and Enjoy the weekend

It has been a great first week back. Everyone has pitched in to get things ready. PBS is off to a great start and we will continually refine how we implement it at Gibson. We are going to have a fantastic kick-off for students the first week of school. Homeroom teachers received "I have Gibson Pride" stickers. Please save those until the PBS student kickoff next Friday. The K-2 kickoff is 9:00-10:15 and the 3-5 Kickoff is 10:30-11:15. This will be a great time to put into practice our new assembly expectations. Teachers will receive other materials such as sub dollars, no shopping cards, and classroom forms.
Administrative supervision and support-Administrators have decided to focus on specific grade levels and departments instead of rotating. Classroom walkthroughs, evaluations, report card reviews , parent conferences and discipline will be handled by a primary administrator all year long. David Johnson will work with Kindergarten and second grade, Ron Davis will work with third and fourth grade and Cindy Snipes will work with first and fifth grade. All other staff will be assigned to an administrator as well.
The PBS team is also aligning the seating arrangements in the cafeteria with the the traffic flow. Classroom teachers will receive a new lunch schedule with different seating. The times will remain the same but the tables may change. We will make sure you get a new seating chart before next Tuesday. A couple of other things to Keep in mind for Monday:
QRI training for 3-5 teachers
DIBELS training for K-2 teachers
PRT's and intervention teachers (formerly Title 1) will attend sessions as they are able.
Rest up and enjoy your weekend.

Open House

Open house last night was a great success. Many families came out to learn about the new school year. The school looked great and the staff did an excellent job. Parents were very impressed and rightly so. Everyone did and excellent job. Please turn your sign in sheets to Mr. Davis so we can get a idea of the participation. Quite a few parents came to the gym to hear more about PBS as well. The excitement about this new approach was noticeable.
Today's major events:
Please attend professional development activities you have asked to attend. Please put a copy of your registration in my box. I will forward them to Mrs. Sawyer when she gets back.
Building will close at 5:00
Committee assignments will be be given out by tomorrow.
Grade levels need to develop schedules and turn into on Monday August 24. Please remember to post schedules outside your room. I have met with PRT's and have developed a plan for assigning them to grade levels. I will met with grade chairs in grade 2-5 over the next two days to share the plan.
You will receive parent handbooks next week. There is a signature page for parents. Den Dollars for returned pages is a good way to motivate students.
Soon you will be receiving protocols for the resource room and copying. Things that you want laminated should be brought to the resource room labeled with your name and room number. We are working on getting laminating done either at school or central office.

Off to a great start

Staff workday -12:00-7:30
Open House tonight-5:30-7:30
Dinner by PTA starting at 4:15
Everyone always does a great job showing what a wonderful school we have. Having a good first impression will go a long way to having a successful school year.
Committee assignments will be given out by the end of the week. It is important to distribute leadership and responsibility;many hands make the load lighter.
Please review the staff development offerings for Thursday and Friday. Sign up for any trainings on line. If you do not have a scheduled staff development, staff workday is 8:00-3:30. Classified staff will need to report to school.
QRI (3-5) and DIBELS (K-2) training will continue Monday.
There was some question about using furlough time. If you think you have furlough time, please let me know and how much time you think you have. I will check against my records. Furlough time cannot be used before Monday.
Please review the staff handbook for important changes. We will review changes throughout the year.
Daily schedules should be turned in by August 28. I will provide the grade level schedules from last year to the grade chairs. As a team, use the master schedule and lunch schedule and create common grade level daily schedules. Keep in mind the 90 minute communication block and minimum 60 minute block and 30 minute Science block. Writing can be incorporated into communication. It does not have to be 60 minutes. Have a great open house.

Tuesday's news

We had a great kickoff to PBS on Monday. Everyone was receptive to the ideas shared and the implementation of a new approach to student behavior. There is a great sense of optimism and excitement about starting this year.
Today's events-
Staff meeting at 1:30-bring your staff handbook.
Building will close at 5:00
Many teachers may want items laminated. I will share a plan on Wednesday about when and how much laminating can be done at Central office.
Today, the grounds department will begin paving much needed additional parking spaces. More staff may want to park in the back while the work is done. They expect to be done Wednesday. The lot will be gravel for now.
Workday on Wednesday is 12:00-7:30. PTA is providing dinner from 4-5:15.
If you need a picture id, please go to central office Monday-Thursday. If you have a Gibson ID card made with Lifetouch last year that would be fine.
I have athletic passes. They will be placed in mailboxes. Attach a picture(not staple or tape) and bring it back for my signature. Names must be typed or written in ink.
Planners are in the office. Please turn in your name and how many planners you need today or tomorrow if you want them for open house.
